Back on the Bike for 2009

I feel like I have stopped cycling. Perhaps that is because I really have! After the move to Louisiana, my rides were limited to jaunts down our really short road with either the dog (really slow) or the kids (really, really slow) in tow. To be fair, I did take a few laps around the countryside. But there was no rhyme or reason to my rides. They were little more than the occasional stress reliever.

But that is going to change! I decided to ride a big charity ride this year. I was initially shooting for the Houston to Austin MS150, but discovered that registration is already closed. So now I have decided that the San Antonio to Corpus Christi MS150 is my goal. I started with a training ride yesterday. Just over 20 miles in a time I should really be ashamed of. But again, to be fair, I was on the mountain bike (shod with 1" slicks) and it was raining.

Why would I ride a mountain bike? The roads in my area are just a bit too rough for my liking on a road bike. The extra balloon in the bigger tires really makes a difference. I'm looking for just the right set of big road tires to mount and I'll make the switch back to the road bike. This calls for a trip to the bike shop!

So, I'll start logging my miles (and times) shortly. For now, consider this my announcement that I'm back!
